Our latest project is the restoration of the small piece of land at the top of Beach Hill where West Hill meets Nore Road, known as Lorymer’s Park and was completed in February 2024.
This small Victorian ‘park’ was a popular place for residents to gather, meet up and admire the splendid views of the channel and beyond. This project was commenced by the late Sandy Tebbutt, and has been restored in her memory. We applied for funding from several sources, and were very grateful to have received grants towards the costs from:
National Grid, Portishead Town Council, Alliance Homes and Avon Local History and Archaeology.
The project included re-surfacing, new railings and chains, two benches, and an interpretation board. Slabs inscribed with the initials of the people who funded the building of the United Reformed Church Hall in Woodhill Road in the 1920s have been inset in the tarmac.
